I have been using my Olympus Pen camera for over a year now and absolutely love it! I have had many people ask me questions and if I would recommend it. While I don’t think it’s for everyone, it has been ideal for my use as a blogger due to its lightweight, compact size, and stylish design.
As someone who tends to switch their camera on auto, a super fancy and expensive camera isn’t for me. The Olympus is easy to use after a bit of playing around and takes great photos without much photography knowledge.
Features I love:
My favourite feature is the built-in wifi allowing you to download photos instantly while on the go. I have the Olympus app on my phone which means I can take a photo and have it posted to Instagram in minutes. The wifi also allows you to use your phone as a remote to take photos, which is perfect when you’re trying to take a photo of yourself.
In addition to the wifi remote capability, the camera has a flip down screen allowing you to see yourself, take photos at awkward angles like flat-lays, and is also perfect for filming.
The cameras touch screen makes it easy to change settings. It also allows you to focus on an object or a person and take photos by touching the screen.
I originally owned a fancy Canon camera but quickly realized it was too big and I was too much of an amateur to make good use of it. After a lot of research online I decided to trade the Canon for the Olympus Pen E-PL7. It’s compact size means it fit’s perfectly in most of my handbags allowing me to take it anywhere.
A major plus for the Olympus is the ability to change lenses, and the wide selection available that is not exclusive to the Olympus brand. Right now, I just have the kit lens the camera came with but I am saving up to buy the 45mm lens which I have read is great for outfit photos as it gives that blurry background effect.
Not only does this camera take great photos but it also shoots HD video too. Now, if you need a camera for creating youtube videos and vlogging then there are definitely better options available. But if you need a camera that takes great photos but also good at videos then this will be enough for you.
The Olympus is a lot cheaper than most DSLR cameras. The average price I have seen for the EPL-7 kit is €500. The lenses are also reasonable compared to more expensive counterparts. The most popular lens for this camera are the 45mm lens, the 17mm lens, and the 75mm lenses but they vary in price and I have yet to try them out.
Do you own the Olympus Pen EPL-7? If so, I would love to know what you think of it?
