Welcome to my first favourites post! Whenever I discover new things I love, be it beauty products, food, tv shows or even people, I like to pass the information on for others to enjoy too. I have done this a little on my Instagram and Twitter but I decided to start a monthly round up of the things I have loved throughout each month here on the blog. I have always loved reading and watching other bloggers/ vloggers talk about their favourites so I hope you enjoy mine too.
Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor in Seduction & Devotion
Like many, I have become a big fan of matt lip products. Most of my favourites have been from higher end brands but I tried Revlon’s matte lip colours and loved them. They’re not completely matte, which is a good thing as they don’t dry on your lips and flake like many others tend to do. They also smell really nice!
I’ve been wearing the shade ‘Seduction’ (the browner colour) almost everyday this month.
Garnier Oil-Infused Micellar Water
Who doesn’t love good micellar water? Its as easy as taking off your makeup as using a makeup wipe, but far more effective and kinder to your skin. I used Garnier’s original micellar water for over a year. I then moved on to Bioderma Sensibio H2O and although more expensive than Garnier I absolutely loved it and couldn’t see myself ever using any other kind. Until now of course. The Garnier Oil-Infused Micellar Water takes taking your makeup off to the next level. It melts makeup off in seconds and leaves your skin-feeling super soft. Although it contains oil, it is not greasy in any way. It’s suitable for all skin types but if you’re like me and have dry sensitive skin you will especially love this product.
Below you can see what the oil looks like in the water, make sure to shake before using!
Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay
For the longest time I have searched for my ‘signature scent’. I finally found it in Jo Malone’s Blackberry & Bay. I had always had an idea in my head (or nose) of what my dream scent might smell like, a mixture of a few perfumes I’ve had over the years. When I smelt Blackberry & Bay I instantly thought “This is it”! I’ve tried many times to describe the scent but I’ve learnt describing smells is hard and I cant do it justice.
This is how Jo Malone puts it: “Childhood memories of blackberry picking…A burst of deep, tart blackberry juice, blending with the freshness of just-gathered bay and brambly woods. Vibrant and verdant.”
BPerfect Semi Permanent Eyebrow Kit
Anastasia Beverly Hills is, and remains the queen of the brow. But in second place, and for a more everyday, natural brow BPerfect’s brow kit reigns. The kit comes in 4 shades, I use Irid Brown for dark brown eyebrows. The kit includes stencils for different shapes, a double ended brush and of course the semi permanent powder. I said this is a perfect product for ‘everyday brows’ because the powder is water resistant, smudge proof, sweat proof, and lasts up to 24 hours. So it really is perfect for every occasion!
Tan Organic Tanning Oil
This month Tan Organic oil is what I have reached for when I cant be bothered to apply a dark and sticky fake tan. Its known as the tan that is free of just about everything (synthetic ingredients, parabens, colours and fragrances). But you don’t need to be organic obsessed to love this product.
It gives a light, yet noticeable colour to your skin. I have typical Irish pale skin so you can definitely see the result but I don’t know what it would be like on those with darker skin tones.
Although oil, it’s not greasy like oil and I find it dries a lot quicker than other tans. I would always need to shower off my fake tan in the morning after applying then night before, but Tan Organic is the first I have used were it’s not necessary. It doesn’t ruin my clothes and it fades really well. They say in the product description that a tanning mitt is not necessary, I was a bit sceptical but I tried applying with my bare hands as recommended and it worked perfectly with no streaks. You do of course still need to wash your hands after!
Bourjois City Radiance & Air Mat Foundations
(Buy 1 get 1 half price at Boots)
I’ve been using these two foundations from Bourjois all summer. I normally wear a full coverage foundation but when I’m in the sun its the last thing I want on my face so the City Radiance was perfect for my holidays as its light and natural looking. It also has SPF 30!
The Air Mat foundation is different to City Escape but I absolutely love it. I’ve worn it every day this month for daytime makeup. It’s full coverage but doesn’t feel like it and has excellent lasting power. It really makes your skin look healthy and fresh.
In the summer I try to avoid using heat on my hair. If I have time I’ll throw my hair up in a towel and let it dry naturally. But having hair as long and thick as mine means it could literality take hours to dry. So when I received a product that promised dry hair in half the time I was very excited! The towels are much lighter and thinner than normal towels but can absorb up to 10 times its’ weight in moisture. These eco friendly towels are super absorbent and leave your hair soft and smooth. This Irish product is now used in many hair salons across the country, but you can buy your own from their website.
They are also great for the gym!
Vichy Idealia SkinCare Range
My final beauty favourite is a new skin care range from Vichy. I always saw Vichy as a brand for older consumers and didn’t give it much notice. I was kindly sent the full Idealia range from Marrons Pharmacy in Clane, Co. Kildare and my feelings for the brand instantly changed. I want to do a full blog post soon on skin care so I wont go into too much detail here but I have been a Kiehl’s fan for over a year and thought I would never bother trying anything else. Now I use the Vichy Ideaila products everyday. I use the eye cream, serum and day or night cream and love them all. The range is aimed at young adult skin to combat the first signs of ageing and dullness.
I have been following Stylonylon since purchasing my new Olympus Pen Camera. I’ve learnt so much about photography, photo editing and how to use my camera from Julia. Her blog is beautiful, and so too is her style and her writing.
Sophia Amoruso is one of my biggest inspirations. I loved her book beyond words so I was delighted to hear she had her own podcast. Sophia interviews Girlbosses from all industries and backgrounds who give their best advice and talk about their biggest life lessons. It’s a funny yet very inspiring, I usually listen to the episodes on the way to work every morning.
Favourites on Netflix
So by now you’ve most definitely heard of Stranger Things, and hopefully watched it too. I managed to get though the whole first series in two days! I didn’t think it would be my cup of tea but it’s the best thing I’ve watched on Netflix in a long time.
The second Netflix show I have loved this month is Zoo. The show is based on a novel by James Patterson. When Animal attacks start to occur on humans all over the world a zoologist races to solve the mystery and stop the pandemic before humans lose all control in the world. It’s an exciting and unique story that I’m currently loving. I am trying to watch Zoo over a longer period than two days to make the excitement last longer!
Thats it for August! I’m pretty sure there will be a lot more in September as I say goodbye to summer and welcome all things Autumn. Make sure to follow me on Instagram @she.prevails and Twitter @ShePrevails1 where I’ll be sure to mention new things I’m loving all throughout the month.
