My most popular blog post to date has been one I wrote over a year ago on my summer holiday tanning regime. Read it HERE. I figured now would be a good time to follow on from that and cover the rest of my favourite summertime products. A few years ago I gave up sunbathing completely and have become obsessed with protecting my skin and wrinkle prevention. The following products are my favourites for protection from the sun and/or sweatproof!
I received this primer in a goodie bag at an event and had no idea how much I would love it. It’s so silky on the skin and the best part is it’s SPF 50! I even prefer this to my holy grail, Laura Mercia primer.
CC Cream for the Day
Ok, where do I begin with this one? This CC Cream is my favourite find of 2017. I was never really a fan of cc creams because I don’t like light foundations. I have red cheeks and freckles and I like to cover them…. The problem is most foundations only have SPF of 15 to 30 tops. I’m so OCD about the sun on my face so this just won’t do. When I came across raving reviews of It Cosmetics CC cream I decided to give it a try. It’s on the expensive side compared to most other CC creams’ I’ve bought but I can honestly say it is worth every penny. It is the perfect consistency and coverage but feels super light. The staying power is pretty amazing, and trust me I have put it through the test day after day on the 35-degree subways. I like to apply it with my fingers as I find my beauty blender and foundation brushes soak too much product up. I don’t want any of this stuff to go to waste!
Foundation for Day to Night
For the night, I usually wear a foundation without SPF because SPF makes your face look ghostly in photos. I love Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation.
But if you need something you can wear day to night then I recommend MAC Studio Water weight SPF 30 Foundation. It’s great coverage, long-lasting and SPF 30. Just apply lots of bronzer before photos in DA club!
I suffer from watery eyes 365 days of the year. I’m so used to strangers asking if I’m crying it’s a joke! So you’ll find me wearing waterproof eye make all year and I have tried and tested them all! In the end, I always go back to either MAC Paint Pots or Charlotte Tilbury pots. I have been reaching for Charlotte Tilbury pots the most lately.
When it comes to mascara, it’s Too Faced Better Than Sex every time! I’ve loved both the regular and waterproof versions for years.
Eyeliner is tricky, I tend to avoid it in the summer. But if I need to wear one it’s probably going to be Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real Push Up Liner. But be warned, this stuff is a bitch to remove when you eventually want to.
For me, I’m naked without filled in brows. So no matter where I am, including the beach or pool I need a little something. I think brow gels are the best for staying put through sweat and swimming. My favourites include Benefit and Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gels. There are definitely a bunch of other lower-end options too but these are the sample’s I have tried and use all the time.
Your lips can burn just like any other part of your skin. I’m constantly applying my Coola SPF 3 lip balm throughout the day. If you need something a little thicker I love Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Colors.
Ok so new discovery for me is oil perfumes. Game changers!! Oil-based perfumes are said to stay on skin far longer than regular perfumes. That means when your sweating in the sun, the oil-based scent will stick around! The only one I have tried so far is Maison Margiela REPLICA in Blur and I love the scent! I’m on the hunt for more budget-friendly options if anyone has any suggestions!
If you’re preparing your tan before a holiday then make Vita Liberata your main gal, just like I already mentioned in my summer fake tan tips post HERE.
If you’re like me and live in a hot and humid country you probably can’t face the stickiness of thick fake tan. Right now, I know if I were to put a developing tan on I would sweat the whole layer off overnight leaving a disgusting mess both on my sheets and my skin. The only tanning products I use when it’s so hot is a tinted moisturizer and tanning wipes. I’ve talked about St. Tropez Gradual Tan Moisturiser HERE but I have also used Coco Brown’s Gentle Bronze version and love it just as much. It’s also the Cocoa Brown tanning wipes I use. They dry fast and I’ve had little to no tan lines from using them.
These are also my favourite products to maintain a fake tan while away. I made sure to stock up in Primark when I was home recently!
And there you have it. My summer saviours when it comes to sun and sweat!
