I had high hopes for 2017 and it didn’t disappoint! You know it’s been a good one when you can’t choose a favourite memory because there are too many good ones. I rang in 2017 in New York with new friends that turned into best friends, I found a job in exactly what I wanted to work in with more responsibility and respect than I could have imagined at 24. My job saw me travel to Boston, Orlando, and Italy in addition to the many trips I took with friends. One of the best parts of living in New York had to be that it is a great transport hub for so many other places on my bucket list. In 2017 I went to Coachella! I have wanted to go for years and was so excited to finally be close enough to go (a five-hour flight is better than 12). Other weekends were spent in Montauk, Miami, and Las Vegas and then to end the year on a high we spent two weeks travelling Cuba and Mexico! Aside from all the travel, there were so many other amazing highlights during the year, like going to New York Fashion week and just enjoying the New York lifestyle and everything that comes with it. Brunching is my new favourite hobby!

A year in New York was by no means easy, it was probably the hardest thing I have ever done but without a doubt one of the best. I can’t begin to describe all the ways in which I’ve grown as a person. I know its cheesy but 2017 is the year I really grew up and “found myself”. Overcoming all the obstacles of New York has taught me I can do anything and my confidence in my abilities is far greater than it was a year ago.

After such an exciting year I have some anxiety on how 2018 can live up to it. In October, after months of trying to secure a new visa to stay in New York, my lawyer told me I had slim to no chance of staying due to all the new Trump laws. It didn’t matter that my company wanted me to stay or that they were prepared to do and pay for whatever it took.  The visas just simply didn’t exist anymore and if I had tried the one option I did have and was rejected, then I may have never been allowed back in again. Once you are denied a visa you will forever have to tick the box saying you’ve been denied entry in the past, without a chance of giving an explanation. Meaning to even go back on a holiday could be a problem. It wasn’t a chance I was willing to take. It was obviously disappointing but I had always known this could happen and all my friends were in the same situation so I was able to accept that my time was up.

Since moving home I’ve been faced with the “what’s next?” question more times than I can count. I’m usually always one to have a plan so for once it’s exciting to say I don’t know. This might have terrified me before but the last year has taught me I’ll be ok no matter what I’m capable of working everything out. I’m really happy to take some time to ease back into Ireland and really think about what I’d like to do next. I’m still working remotely for the company I worked for in New York so I’m fortunate that I don’t need to rush into the first job that comes my way.  I don’t know what 2018 has in store for me but I’m excited to take my new found energy from New York back to Ireland and further grow as a person here. I’ll eventually move into Dublin City which I’m really excited about.

When I wrote last years bucket list & goals I listed all the countries and places I wanted to see. I was very optimistic about most of it so I’m delighted to have ticked off so many things on the list and went to other places I wouldn’t have ever imagined going to, particularly Cuba. I haven’t had much time to think about where I would like to visit in 2018 but maybe some of these?

  • Dubai
  • Iceland
  • Greece
  • Spain (to my family’s home)
  • New York (I miss it already!)
  • A few weekend trips to cities like Budapest, Prague, Milan, Rome. (Or wherever Ryanair have good sales for haha).

Last year I also did a round-up of all my favourites from the year so here we go for 2018!

Favourite Product

Cover FX Illuminating Setting Spray

Favourite Podcast

The Skinny Confidential Podcast

Favourite TV Show

I really didn’t watch much TV this year. 2017 was all about Youtube for me! I have always loved The Walking Dead and managed to remain Kaught up with the Kardashians all year.

Favourite Netflix Binge

The Crown & 13 Reasons Why

Favourite Movie

Again I really didn’t watch many movies or go to the cinema. The only Movie that stands out is Detroit. It’s a heartbreaking true story that is more upsetting than anything else but really opened my eyes to racism.

Favourite YouTubers

So many! Emma Hill for her fashion inspo and Lydia Millen for her overall life goals! Niomi Smart for her food recommendations, SacconeJollys for their comforting family feels.

Favourite Book

One of my resolutions for 2018 is to read more books! The book that stands out to me most from 2017 is Be Well By Kelly. A nutrition and cookbook. She is full of knowledge and she’s been a guest on many popular podcasts if you want to check her out!

I was unsure if I’d find the time to keep blogging when I moved to New York, but I realized when you enjoy something you make the time. I have loved having this as my hobby and after my first blogging break during December, since I started over two years ago, I am ready to go again! I want to get more creative in 2018 to provide something different. This blogging space is cluttered and I personally don’t read or follow half the blogs I did before. Somethings gotta change in the online world and I’m excited to evolve!

As always, thank you for reading! I hope 2018 is filled with a lot more positivity and happiness in the world than 2017. The best is yet to come!
